Weekly Website Wednesday – Week #12

Somehow, I’ve made it to week 12! I originally thought I could sit down and write this piece every Sunday, getting it done early, so I could relax on Wednesday … so far that hasn’t exactly happened. When Wednesday rolls around, I’m usually struggling to put something together to post to the NetKennel website. I enjoy writing this weekly update as much as you enjoy reading it and I have plenty of other things I could be working on, so why continue writing it?
Have you ever heard the saying “Content is King”? It’s a marketing strategy, where quality, usefulness and content are more important factors in attracting visitors to your website than flashy designs and heavy advertising.
Take Gundog Central for example, last year I saw some comments on social media from two popular Gun Dog community influencers talking about how Gundog Central looks like it was built in 1999 and that only "ancient people" would ever use the site. If they want to put down my work because it looks dated, that’s fine, more power to them, but to put down anybody that uses the site because of the way it looks, that’s just ignorant and hateful. While they’re going around judging my work, and probably yours too, I can guarantee you Gundog Central is lapping them in monthly visits. I’d wager Gundog Central generates more traffic in one month then those two idiots see in a year. Why is that? Gundog Central does have a simple, dated design, but it still ranks highly in the search engines … one reason is that it’s constantly being updated with new content with monthly, weekly, daily, even hourly updates.
It’s a little-known secret that Search Engines reward websites that publish relevant and helpful content. It also helps build authority and credibility, which helps drive people back to your site.
There are so many stale websites out there on the internet, that never change and never get updated. Everybody is focused on posting or scrolling on social media now days, that they’ve abandoned updating their websites. All those old websites create opportunities for anyone willing to spend the time updating their sites. Anything you can post on social media about your dogs … you can post on your own kennel website.
If you want more people to visit to your Kennel website, you need to have a constant influx of new content to your site. This can be in the form of dog profiles, pedigrees, photo galleries and news post. This will help you more than having a fancy website design. Search engines don’t care about what your website looks like, they care about what it says and how it performs.
